Paraguay project proving popular

Interest is strong in Paraguay’s Costanera Sur project. So far six bids have been made to the country’s Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC). The highway will connect Asuncion with Lambare and the project is expected to cost in the order of US$160 million to build. The work is due to commence in September 2019, taking around 30 months to complete. Contractors from Angola, Brazil and Spain are amongst those making bids, in partnership with local construction companies.

    The tender process is opening in Paraguay for a new stretch of the 557km Transchaco road. The work for this section is expected to cost US$101.3 million. The firms winning the deals for the Transchaco road sections will have to maintain these stretches of the route for four years under the terms of each agreement.     Paraguay increased its spending on road repairs during 2017. The country’s Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) spent around US$800 million on road repairs and maintenance during the first 11 months of 2017. The country aims to increase its budget for 2018 to $1 billion. The development work will see Paraguay increase its total network of surfaced roads from 5,000km to 7,650km by the time the current administration finishes its term in office.
