Paraguay bridge deal agreed

A funding package is being provided for the second bridge crossing the Parana River in Paraguay.

A funding package is being provided for the second bridge crossing the Parana River in Paraguay. Itaipu Binacional is to provide a financing package worth US$75 million for this project. The bridge is expected to cost $180 million in all to construct. The bridge will be 3.5km in length, connecting Asuncion with Chaco'i. In addition, Itaipu Binacional is providing the necessary financing for another bridge connecting Carmelo Peralta with Puerto Murtinho.

    Interest is strong in Paraguay’s Costanera Sur project. So far six bids have been made to the country’s Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC). The highway will connect Asuncion with Lambare and the project is expected to cost in the order of US$160 million to build. The work is due to commence in September 2019, taking around 30 months to complete. Contractors from Angola, Brazil and Spain are amongst those making bids, in partnership with local construction companies.

    Paraguay is opening the tender process for construction work on the Alberdi-Pilar road. The tender is being handled by Paraguay’s Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC). Work on the 96km route will include surfacing and the project is expected to cost just over US$131 million. Financing is being provided in the form of a loan from Fonplata.
