Nicaragua road plan for 2019

Nicaragua has revealed plans for its road development work to be carried out in 2019. The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure (MTI) has set a budget at US$168.3 million and the plan involves the construction of 210.5km of new road links. This is an increase over the 162km of new roads that MTI set as its plan for 2018. However the 2019 budget is lower than that set for 2018, so there have been questions as to how the target will be achieved.

    Nicaragua’s capital Managua is to benefit from a project to widen and upgrade the Pista Juan Pablo II road. Funding is being provide from a number of sources. The European Investment Bank (EIB) is providing US$136 million while the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) is providing $105.5 million.     Kazakhstan is setting out a budget for road repair and upgrade work, in a bid to improve the country’s transport network. The Ministry of Investment and Development has plans to carry out works to 1,700km of Kazakhstan’s primary road links during 2019. The programme of works is expected to cost US$222.8 million. A similar road repair programme with a slightly smaller budget was carried out during 2018.
