A new road connection is now open to traffic in Nicaragua, connecting the country’s coasts. The route runs from Bluefields on Nicaragua’s Caribbean Coast to the west of the country and the Pacific Coast. The work has taken three years to complete and will be of enormous economic benefit to Bluefields, which ahs suffered from poor transport connections to the rest of the country. The move will help develop the goods trade and will also boost tourism to Bluefields, substantiall cutting journey times. Funding worth US$115 million was provided jointly by the Japanese Government, the 2791 Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) and the World Bank (WB).
