Montenegro has spent €198 million on road maintenance and construction in the past five years, according to Mirsad Ibrahimovic, director of the Directorate for State Roads.

The government also announced this past summer that construction of the Bar-Bolijare highway is being accelerated. China Roads and Bridges Company is the main contractor the Podgoric-to-Matesevo stretch, with work set to remain within the €194 million budget.

Major projects along the Bar-Bolijare highway include the 960m-long Moracica Bridge over the Moraca River Canyon, the most complex portion of the 41km first section of the Bar-Bolijare highway to be built.

Work on the Moracica Bridge is expected to be complete by April. Construction is by 3366 China Road and Bridge Corporation and 2349 Cowi was appointed by CRBC as consulting engineer for the bridges and tunnels on its section of the highway project.
