Mexico’s programme of infrastructure development

The Mexican Government is on track with its programme of infrastructure development for the time period from 2012 and 2018. Work completed includes the construction of 38 highways and 33,000km of rural roads. In addition, 77 federal roads have also been widened and rebuilt. The Mexican Government is on track with its programme of infrastructure development for the time period from 2012 and 2018. Work completed includes the construction of 38 highways and 33,000km of rural roads. In addition, 77 federal roads have also been widened and rebuilt. The country’s Secretariat of Communications and Transport (3067 SCT) says that much of this work has been carried out under the PPP model, with financing of around US$3 billion. The new highways stretch for a total of 2,400km and includes urban routes in the capital, Mexico City, as well as routes connecting La Marquesa and Toluca, Chalco with Cuautla, Mexico with Pachuca and Mexico to Puebla.

    The Mexico’s Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT) has confirmed that a total of 1,474 road infrastructure contracts were granted in the first half of 2015. This work is costing in the region of US$1.02 billion. A total of 74% of these contracts were awarded to Mexican companies, whilst 26% corresponded to foreign firms.
