Mexico: Acapulco’s Escenica Alterna tunnel to open in 2017

Construction of the Escenica Alterna tunnel in the Mexican resort port city of Acapulco is expected to be finished by June 2017. Work started on the 3.1km tunnel in 2013 with completion originally scheduled for October 2015. But financial problems delayed the US$200 million project which is now around three-quarters complete. Work by the contractor IDEAL - part of conglomerate Grupo Carso - includes construction of an elevated road connecting tunnel with Metlapil motorway.

Construction of the Escenica Alterna tunnel in the Mexican resort port city of Acapulco is expected to be finished by June 2017.

Work started on the 3.1km tunnel in 2013 with completion originally scheduled for October 2015. But financial problems delayed the US$200 million project which is now around three-quarters complete.

Work by the contractor 3136 IDEAL - part of conglomerate Grupo Carso - includes construction of an elevated road connecting tunnel with Metlapil motorway.
