Malaysia highway deal to receive funding

Funding is being secured that will help pay for the Sarawak Coastal Highway project in Malaysia. The State Government for Sarawak has set a budget of US$2.65 billion for four key infrastructure projects, including the highway, as well as the second state trunk road.     Funding has been found for a major highway project in India. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is providing a substantial portion of the US$846 million of financing required for the 800km Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC). In all the ADB will provide $631 million in the form of a series of grants and loans, which will be delivered in stages. Meanwhile the Indian Government will provide $215 million. The VCIC itself forms part of the 2,500km East Coast Economic Corridor (ECEC).

  • Polish capital route project being planned

    Route reviews are being carried out for a key Polish project. Poland’s highways authority, GDDKiA, is analysing the four potential routes for the S10 road, which will connect with Warsaw’s outer ring road, itself still to be completed. The different routes have estimated costs ranging from €5.34 billion to €5.99 billion and all connect with the A1, though at different intersections. Financing for the work should be secured by 2020, with tendering expected in 2025 and construction due to commence in 2026.

    A key Kenyan highway project is being funded by Chinese sources. The JKIA-James Gichuru expressway in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, is receiving a financing package worth US$505.5 million from China. The new expressway will be built by the Chinese contractor, China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC). The aim of the project is to reduce congestion on the existing Mombasa highway. The new link will also include lanes specifically for bus rapid transit (BRT) .
