Loan to Tanzania for road project

Tanzania’s Dodoma City Outer Ring Roads project is to benefit from a loan provided by the African Development Bank (AfDB). The US$180 million loan from the AfDB will be used alongside the $36 million being provided by the Tanzanian Government for the work. In all the project will see 110km of road being constructed, including the ring road itself plus access roads and interchanges.

    Funding has been secured from Kuwait for a series of major infrastructure projects in Tanzania. One of the main projects will be for a series of road upgrades in the city of Dodoma. Another project will be for improvements to the 257km road connecting Morogoro with Dodoma. The US$207.3 million loan has been made available to the Tanzanian Government via the Arab Economic Development Fund.     Two roads linking Tanzania with Burundi in East Africa will be upgraded. Construction work will start in 2019. Some US$322 million of funding is being provided by the African Development Bank (AfDB). Upgrades will be carried out on the roads connecting Rumonge with Gitaz as well as Kabingo with Kasulu and Manyovu. An new border post will be constructed.

A loan worth US$257.7 million from The African Development Bank (AfDB) will help finance the work. The 260km road connects Manyovu with Kabingo and the work is expected to take 36 months to complete. The work is important as it will provide better transport to an area of Tanzania that has suffered from poor connectivity in the past.
