JCB has now built 750,000 backhoe loaders

JCB has now built 750,000 backhoe loaders since the firm started producing these machines in 1953. The first full year of production for the machines was 1954, when the firm built 35 backhoe loaders. It took 20 years for the first 50,000 to be built. However, production has grown considerably and the firm now builds backhoe loaders in Brazil, India and the US, as well as in the UK.

It is of note that the 750,000th machine was built in the same factory in Rocester, Staffordshire where the first backhoe loader was manufactured in 1953. The production facilities have evolved somewhat since that time however.
