Jamaica highway project funding from China

A loan from China will help pay for work on a major highway project in China. The US$326 million loan is being supplied by the Exim Bank of China. This will help pay for Jamaica’s Southern Coastal Highway Improvement Project. The funding will also help pay for the extension of the tolled east-west highway from May Pen, Clarendon to Williamsfield, Manchester. In all the highway work is expected to cost $384 million, with Jamaica paying for the remainder from its own budget.

    A new highway is planned in Bangladesh that will improve transport links to Dhaka’s airport. The route will run between Ashulia on the north-eastern side of the Bangladesh capital and Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The construction project is intended to boost trade and transport and is expected to cost US$2.06 billion. The Bangladesh Government is giving its approval for the project and will provide $725.3 million of the financing required from its own budget.

    Toll road operator Jasa Marga of Indonesia has added four contracts at a cost of nearly US$2.4 billion to its highway concession portfolio. Jasa Marga hold equity of between 55% and 65% in each project, according to a report by the Jakarta Post newspaper.
