Infrastructure development for key eastern nations

The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) are planning to help develop infrastructure in projects in Armenia, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan. From now until 2021, EDB will provide US$1 billion while the ADB will provide $2 billion. In addition, the banks have signed an agreement on additional co-financing of the construction of the North - South motorway in Armenia. EDB will provide $320 million for the project.

    Kazakhstan is working on a major programme of road network development. The country will have an additional 4,500km of roads added to the network during 2018. Kazakhstan’s highway network will measure a total of 600km by the end of 2018 meanwhile. By the end of 2021, the plan is for Kazakhstan to have a network of some 10,000km of tolled roads, with 5,500km being built before 2020. At present Kazakhstan has just one 210km toll road connecting Astana with Buranbay.

    A new bridge spanning the River Ntem will provide a link between Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea. The bridge will form part of the 159km Kribi-Campo-Bata road and its construction follows an agreement between the governments of the two neighbouring nations. Some 77km of the road is in Cameroon and 82km is in Equatorial Guinea. The entire road and bridge project is expected to boost trade and economic activity.
