Indoogoo, a social and trading network for the construction industry, has added geolocation of available equipment to its My Rentals Website.

Users of My Rentals have been locating and renting heavy equipment from big organisations including national outfits and smaller local traders. The new service now allows users to search for the machinery they wish to rent, specifying exactly where and when it is needed. The user is presented with a customised map showing all suitable machinery in the specified area.

Each piece of equipment is marked with a flag and by hovering over a flag with the cursor, the user can see the details of the listing in brief. By clicking on the flag the user is taken straight to the full listing page. From here, the potential customer can contact the rental company directly to request a quotation.

Companies or people looking to put their equipment up for rent can upload their listing and specify their location in order to be added to the map.

Chief executive and founder of Indoogoo, Mark Turner explained that “because Indoogoo is a social network, a personal message or contact request to a rental company start the ball rolling”.

By tracking down equipment close to their jobsites, users can reduce demobilisation and mobilisation costs and, because the service is free, procurement costs are kept to a minimum, said Turner.

Indoogoo was started in 2012 and has undergone refinements making it useable on all formats, including tablets.

Users also can create unlimited listings with up to 10 photos and four videos. Users looking to buy a specific piece of equipment can create a request for quotation (RFQ) to help track down exactly what is needed.

Indoogoo keeps contact data strictly private and does not share details between users.
