Indonesia’s key Trans-Sumatra highway project will be complete in 2024.

Construction work is expected to be complete on Indonesia’s Trans-Sumatra highway project in 2024. In all, the highway will extend some 2,878km. Work is still being carried out on a number of sections of the route, which will be tolled.

Financing has still to be secured for some stretches of the project. In all, the Trans-Sumatra toll road (JTST) is costing close to US$33 billion. The Indonesian Government is providing a portion of the funding required, with a considerably larger portion being secured through bank loans.

The Padang to Pekanbaru toll road, Bengkulu to Palembang toll road and Sibolga to Medana toll road will all connect to the JTST.

    Construction firm Wijaya Karya (Wika) is heading the consortium that will build the Serang-Panimbang toll highway in Indonesia’s Banten province. The 40 year concession package for the US$825.85 million project was awarded to the state-owned construction firm and its two partners by the Toll Road Regulatory Agency.   • Nicaragua highway funding deal secured
    March 14, 2017
    Repairs and improvement works will now go ahead on Nicaragua’s Pista Juan Pablo II highway in capital Managua. The project is expected to cost close to US$256 million to carry out. A portion of the funding required will come in the shape of a loan worth $105.5 million from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI). Nicaragua’s Ministry of Treasury and Public Credit is aiming to receive the remainder of the funding necessary for the work through a loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB)

    A new highway stretch measuring 28km long is opening in Macedonia. The work has been carried out by the Greek contractor Aktor. The project has cost €227 million. The new highway section runs from Demir Kapija to Smokvica.
