India’s Maharashtra State is setting out a massive programme for infrastructure development. In all some US$47.08 billion of infrastructure works will be carried out. Transport development is a key priority, with a series of major highway construction projects now being planned.

  • India’s massive sea bridge project

    The contract has been awarded for a 7.8km sea bridge across the Mumbai Bay in India. A joint venture team comprising Daewoo E&C and Tata Projects will carry out the design and construction for the US$865.2 million Mumbai Trans Harbour Link. The partners will also construct the Shivaji Nagar Interchange located at Navi Mumbai. Once the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link is complete, it will be India’s biggest sea-bridge.

Work will be carried out to some 750km of roads with funding being provided by a combination of PPPs and sources such as the World Bank (WB) and the Latin American Development Bank (CAF).

    New technology now looks likely to reduce the cost of Norway’s massive Ferry Free E39 road project. The work had originally been expected to come with a price tag of as much as €36.47 billion (NOK 340 billion) when the plans were announced in early 2016. According to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens vegvesen), the crossing over the Bjørnafjorden is now likely to be €858.1 million (NOK 8 billion) less costly
