India helping fund Nepal infrastructure

India is helping with funding for Nepal’s infrastructure development programme. In particular this funding will be used to help expand and improve Nepal’s highway network. India is helping with funding for Nepal’s infrastructure development programme. In particular this funding will be used to help expand and improve Nepal’s highway network. The move has been highlighted by the recent presentation of a US$2.31 million cheque by the Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Manjeev Singh Puri, to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Management, Nepal. This financial assistance will be used in the construction of the Postal Highway, the Maisthan-Gaushalabazaar-Samsi Road and the Birendrabazaar-Yadukuha-Mahinathpur route. The Indian government has been assisting Nepal’s road development since 1950 as a part of its multi-sectoral and multi-dimensional India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme.

  • World Bank funding for Nepalese Bridge

    Nepal’s Ministry for Physical Infrastructure and Transport has inaugurated a programme for bridge upgrades and maintenance across the country. This is being funded by the World Bank while the programme will also benefit from new bridge management software developed by the department of roads.     Data from the Nepalese Government shows that work is on-going to upgrade the country’s road network. Public Road Statistics from the Ministry of Physical Planning, Works and Transport Management show that 1,180km of new roads have been constructed in Nepal in the 2011-2012 fiscal year.
