Guatemala road project funding benefiting from foreign input

Foreign investors are playing a major role in funding work to develop Guatemala’s road infrastructure. For 2018, 74 of the projects being planned in Guatemala will be funded through foreign sources. However in all the Guatemalan Government has planned some 2.312 projects in all in its budget for 2018. Some US$131.85 million will be aimed at road works. Four projects are being planned to develop the road link connecting Alta Verapaz and Quiche. Another major road project being planned is for the CA-9 highway

Foreign investors are playing a major role in funding work to develop Guatemala’s road infrastructure. For 2018, 74 of the projects being planned in Guatemala will be funded through foreign sources. However in all the Guatemalan Government has planned some 2.312 projects in all in its budget for 2018. Some US$131.85 million will be aimed at road works. Four projects are being planned to develop the road link connecting Alta Verapaz and Quiche. Another major road project being planned is for the CA-9 highway project while improvements will be carried out on the Belice Bridge.

    The authorities in Peru are planning a series of key infrastructure projects that will boost connectivity and communications in the country. Contracts are being prepared for tender with the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) setting a budget of some US$15.55 billion in all.   • Indonesia uses Chinese loan to kick start major road projects

    The Indonesian government is looking to spend around US$385 million of a major loan from China to construct three toll roads in the islands of Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Java. The three toll roads are Cileunyi-Sumedang-Dawuan (Cisumdawu) of West Java, Balikpapan-Samarinda of East Kalimantan and Manado-Bitung of North Sulawesi. China recently announced it would lend Indonesia around $1.5 billion for infrastructure projects.

  • Russian road rebuilding programme

    The Russian Ministry of Transport is setting out a major programme of transport infrastructure improvements, with a budget of US$175.56 billion being planned. Russia has 511,000km of regional and municipal roads at present, around 43% of the country's total network. The aim is to increase the percentage of roads with federal and municipal status to 50%, which will require around 40,000km of roads to be upgraded by 2024.   • Polish road projects commencing shortly

    Two major road projects are planned for Poland. Spanish construction firm Dragados intends to start work building a 25km ring road around the Polish city of Radom in the second half of 2016. The road will cost over €171.67 million to construct and will be completed in 2018. The work includes building four bridges, four junctions and two pedestrian bridges. The new ring road will form a part of the S7 road and reduce journey time between Krakow, Kielce and Warsaw.
