Germany’s road repair funding shortfall

Germany has a massive backlog of works required on its high speed road network. A report by Germany’s institute for economic research (DIW) says that the backlog of work for the transportation network corresponds will cost in the region of €80 billion to €100 billion to complete. According to the DIW report, around 50% of Autobahn bridges and 20% of Autobahn routes are in a critical state. A report by Germany’s institute for economic research (DIW) says that the backlog of work for the transportation network corresponds will cost in the region of €80 billion to €100 billion to complete.     The fatality rate on Germany’s road network increased in the first half of 2014, compared with the same period last year. The preliminary figures from Germany's Federal Statistics Office, Destatis, show an increase in road deaths of 9.5% to 1,576 for the first six months of 2014.
