Funding packages have been secured for necessary road improvement works in the West African nations of Côte d'Ivoire and Senegal. A loan worth nearly US$199 million is being provided to the Côte d'Ivoire Government by the AFD. This will be used to maintain and upgrade roads that connect with Mali and Burkina Faso.

The finance package will be used to upgrade the roads linking the town of Ouangolodougou in the north of Côte d'Ivoire that link with Mali and Burkina Faso. The work will also see new bridges being constructed along both links as well as improvements to minor roads connecting with villages along the route.

Meanwhile, a $63 million is being provided by the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) that will pay for road construction works in Senegal. The plan is for a new stretch of highway linking the capital, Dakar, with Tivaoune. This work forms part of a wider project to build a 200km highway connecting Dakar with the country’s other coastal cities as well as neighbouring nations

A finance package worth $270 million was previously provided by the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) to the Senegal Government to pay for work on the coastal highway project.

Several important road links are being constructed in West Africa and North Africa t present that will improve international trade and transport between various nations.
