Funding package secured for Myanmar bridge project

Funding has been secured for an important bridge project in Myanmar. The new bridge will connect the key commercial city of Yangon with Dala, spanning the Yangon River. The Economic Development Cooperation Fund of South Korea is providing a loan worth close to US$138 million for the work. The Myanmar Government is also providing over $188 million for the project. Funding has been secured for an important bridge project in Myanmar. The new bridge will connect the key commercial city of Yangon with Dala, spanning the Yangon River. The Economic Development Cooperation Fund of South Korea is providing a loan worth close to US$138 million for the work. The Myanmar Government is also providing over $188 million for the project. Originally the bridge was expected to cost $168 million but a series of design changes have resulted in a larger budget being required. One of the cost factors for the bridge is the requirement for it to give sufficient clearance underneath for river traffic. The Myanmar Government is at present looking for additional funding for the work.

    Funding has been secured from Japan to help pay for construction of the Thanlyin Bridge No 3 project in Myanmar. A loan worth US$282.5 million is being provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Construction is due to start in March 2019 and should take until 2023 to complete.
