The Czech Transport Ministry has issued a planning permission for the first part of the planned D11 motorway construction for the 15.5km long section Hradec Kralove-Smirice which is expected to cost nearly €247 million.

Both towns are in northern Czech Republic, near the Polish border. Work includes construction of 19 bridges, five noise reduction barriers and two flyovers.

Last July, the Czech road management company RSD said it was looking for a contractor for 15km section, one of the last remaining sections of the D11 to be built. The RSD said that the work was worth around €218.3 million, according to Czech media at the time.

Construction of another section between the town of Trutnov and the border with Poland is likely to start in 2019 and the Jaromer-Trutnov section after 2020.

The D11 motorway connecting Prague and Hradec Králové began in 1978. It is part of European route E67 – the so-called Via Baltica - from the Czech capital Prague to the Finnish capital Helsinki by way of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
