Dual carriageway may be built between Gyor and Dunajska Streda

The Hungarian government said that it intends to build a dual carriageway to connect the city of Gyor and the Slovakian town of Dunajska Streda.

The Hungarian government said that it intends to build a dual carriageway to connect the city of Gyor and the Slovakian town of Dunajska Streda.

Plans would need to be supported by the Slovak state so talks will be launched. Hungariuan media report that a bridge may have to be built over the Danube River.

Győr, with a population of around 130,000, is a major city in northwest Hungary and the capital of Győr-Moson-Sopron County and Western Transdanubia region. It also lies halfway between the Hungarian capital Budapest and that of Austria, Vienna, making it an important commercial city. Győr  is also home to the Hungarian factory of German car manufacturer Audi.

The Slovakian city of Dunajská Streda, with a population of around 23,000, is the most important town of the Žitný ostrov area and has a Hungarian ethnic majority.
