Croatia sea bridge project moving forward

The authorities in Croatia are pushing ahead with plans for the Peljeski bridge project. The country’s Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure will apply for funding for the project from the EU, although further hurdles have yet to be cleared. The authorities in Croatia are pushing ahead with plans for the Peljeski bridge project. The country’s Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure will apply for funding for the project from the EU, although further hurdles have yet to be cleared. Construction of the 2.4km bridge is expected to cost €373.8 million. Bids for construction of the access roads have already been placed. The bridge is intended to connect the Croatian peninsula of Pelješac to the Croatian mainland. The link would run through Croatia’s southern tip, including Dubrovnik. It would allow drivers to travel straight from the peninsula to the mainland, without having to travel through territory of Bosnia Herzogovina and this would reduce journey time, including the need to pass border controls. The project has attracted some controversy since its first conception however.

    Croatia’s minister of infrastructure, Oleg Butkovic, said a winner will be chosen to build the controversial Peljeski Bridge on the Adriatic Sea coast by summer 2017.     Croatia’s public procurement body has rejected complaints by all three international consortia over a winning low tender for the Peljeski bridge. Bids for construction of the four-lane 2.4km bridge were submitted in the middle of last year. The bridge will connect Croatian territory by traversing the Adriatic Sea’s Mali Ston Bay.     Croatian media are reporting a dispute between two consortia and that of the China Road and Bridges over the Peljeski bridge project.
