Work could begin in November on a 4km section of the Circunvalacion Norte northern ring road around the Costa Rican capital city San Jose.

The section will connect the Pan-American Highway with Route 32. But delays in agreeing land expropriation have hindered the start of work.

La Republica newspaper reported that 73 land expropriation processes were outstanding.

The project was granted to a consortium made up of Hernan Solis and La Estrella in 2014 and is likely to cost around US$141 million. The 863 Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) will help finance the project whose construction is expected to last 18 months.

The Pan-American Highway runs south from Prudhoe Bay in the US state of Alaska at the tip of North America, through Central America and down to Ushuaia, the southern tip of Argentina.
