Costa Rica connection construction commencing

Construction work is commencing on a major new road project in Costa Rica. The project will see improvement works carried out to the 107km route connecting Limon on the country’s eastern coast, with Rio Frio lying in the north, and close to the border with Nicaragua. Construction work is commencing on a major new road project in Costa Rica. The project will see improvement works carried out to the 107km route connecting Limon on the country’s eastern coast, with Rio Frio lying in the north, and close to the border with Nicaragua. The work is being carried out by the Chinese contractor China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC). The first stretch of road to be upgraded will be the section of Route 32 close to Limon. In all the work is costing US$465 million, with some $395 million being provided by China’s Exim Bank and the remainder being covered by Costa Rica’s Government. The work is extensive and in addition to the road improvements, will also include widening and upgrading 36 bridges along the route. Because of the range of road and bridge improvements being carried out, the project is expected to take 34 months to complete.

    Approval has been given for a major highway upgrade project in Taiwan. The Provincial Highway No 9 runs North-South and connects Hualien County with Taitung County. This route will be widened along a 41km stretch that lies between the Muguaxi Bridge and the border between the counties of Hualien and Taitung. The widening work will allow the highway to carry greater traffic volumes and the project was approved by the National Development Council of Taiwan.
