The project provides an extension for the existing stretch of Beltway connecting Pittsburgh International Airport and US 22 to Interstate 79.

The work has been split into nine sections for the construction process. Two are complete and work is underway on another four. The project includes building an overpass and three smaller bridges, as well as a 420m bridge with five spans.
