Colombia’s 4G road infrastructure development programme is on track. The financing for 70% of this programme of works is now being secured. Colombia’s 4G road infrastructure development programme is on track. The financing for 70% of this programme of works is now being secured. Worth some US$15.5 billion in all, the 4G programme is the fourth stage in the country’s plan to redevelop its transport infrastructure. Work commenced on the 4G programme in 2016 and it was originally due for completion in 2021. However, delays have crept into the programme due in part to issues surrounding the Brazilian contractor Odebrecht, which was handling some of the works. The firm has been hit with serious allegations over its business dealings both in Brazil and in other countries.

    The completion of Colombia’s long-running La Linea Tunnel project is now in sight, finally. Colombia’s president, Juan Manuel Santos, and vice president, German Vargas Lleras, made a joint announcement that the 8.65km long tunnel will be inaugurated in November 2016.     Colombia’s road development programme has delivered a major extension to the country’s overall network during 2019. The country’s national road institute, (Invias), says that 65 projects have been delivered to date during 2019. In all Invias has spent more than US$989 million on road projects and upgraded 1,336km of roads and built 70km of new roads during 2019. A further 13 road links have been designed during 2019.

    Colombia’s National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) has approved Consorcio Estructura Plural Via al Puerto to build the remaining 26.5km of the Buga-Buenaventura dual carriageway.
