Colombia Caribbean connections under construction

Colombia is working on plans to redevelop transport infrastructure in its Caribbean Region. In all nine road projects are underway, which will cost a total of US$2.8 billion. New highways will connect Cartagena with Barranquilla, Carreto with Cruz del Viso and Antioquia with Bolivar. Also being built area route running through Santa Marta Riohacha, Paraguachon and Cordoba-Sucre as well as part of the Ruta del Sol highway.

    A key bridge link is due for completion in Colombia shortly. The new Moravia bridge forms part of the Santa Madre Laura road project and should be complete in April 2016. The bridge is over 500m long and has cost some US$46.8 million to build. The work is being carried out by construction consortium Bermejal. Once open to traffic the bridge will help to reduce traffic on the existing Barranquilla and Mico bridges by providing an alternative route to west Medellin.

  • Colombia’s key 4G road projects underway

    Colombia is moving ahead with its 4G programme, as nine of the 30 key projects in the road development scheme now financially secured. The remaining 21 projects are now being built, while 25 of the projects from the 1G, 2G and 3G schemes are already in use, having expanded Colombia’s network by a total of 3,743km.     Construction work is underway on the road improvement project between Kenya’s premier port of Mombasa and the town of Mariakani. The project will see the A109 route being widened and upgraded and is costing nearly US$59 million.
