Colombia Caribbean connections under construction

Colombia is working on plans to redevelop transport infrastructure in its Caribbean Region. In all nine road projects are underway, which will cost a total of US$2.8 billion. New highways will connect Cartagena with Barranquilla, Carreto with Cruz del Viso and Antioquia with Bolivar. Also being built area route running through Santa Marta Riohacha, Paraguachon and Cordoba-Sucre as well as part of the Ruta del Sol highway.

    Work is now starting on Colombia’s Toyo Tunnel (Tunel del Toyo) project. The 9.8km long tunnel is being built by a subsidiary of the Spanish FCC Group, FCC Construccion. The concession contract for the tunnel is for a 10 year period that includes design, construction, operation and maintenance. The project is expected to cost US$483 million and once complete, the new link will improve transport connections between Medellin and Uraba.   • New UK motorway link under construction

    Construction of a new junction on the M1 near Dunstable in Bedfordshire is starting in the UK. The new junction, junction 11A, is located just to the south of Toddington services and forms part of a new €225 million link road between the A5 and the M1 that will help to unlock growth and reduce congestion in the area. Work on the link road began in March.

    The Colombian authorities are agreeing terms with the Colombian electricity transmission company Interconexion Electrica (ISA) for the Autopistas de la Montana highway project. The Bogota-Villavicencio highway was also awarded although other infrastructure projects are still awaiting approval.
