Chilean road improvements planned

Chile is planning a series of road improvements that will help boost connectivity. An additional budget of US$150 million has been secured by Chile’s Ministry of Public Works (MOP), in addition to the $1.4 billion already budgeted for road works. Some $2.8 billion worth of road projects are being opened for tender by MOP. These include the Carretera de la Fruta highway and the Ruta Los Vilos-La Serena route.

Approval has been given in Germany for an upgrade to an important stretch of the autobahn network. The A4 linking Dresden with Bautzen will be widened along an 86km stretch. The aim of the work is to boost capacity as the section now handles increasing volumes of heavy truck traffic. The work is expected to cost €1.2 billion. Although this section of autobahn is comparatively new, the improvement work will add the extra capacity now needed due to the truck traffic between Germany and Poland. Bautzen lies close to Germany’s border with southern Poland and the city of Legnica.

    Thannhauser + Ulbricht Straßen- und Tiefbau of Fremdingen in Southern Germany, is currently upgrading the country's B 2 federal highway near the town of Roth and employing four new Doosan DA30 articulated dump trucks (ADTs) and a new Doosan DX490LC-3 crawler excavator for the earthmoving work. The machines belong to the rental fleet of Rühle Maschinenpark, based in Untermünkheim-Haagen, South West Germany.   • Belarus bridges and highway rebuilding

    Belarus has plans for rebuilding of 12 bridges and an important highway stretch. The bridges and highway section form part of the M3 route connecting capital Minsk with the city of Vitebsk in the north east of the country. The project is expected to cost €375 million. A portion of the necessary funding will be provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Improving the route will help develop the country’s economy.
