Capital city ring road for Costa Rica

Construction work is underway on the ring road around Costa Rica’s capital city, San Jose. Up to 72% of the work on the US$163 million Circunvalacion Norte project has been carried out so far.

Much of the financing required for the work has been supplied by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI). A consortium comprising Estrella and H Solis is carrying out the work for the client, Costa Rica’s national road authority, Consejo Nacional de Vialidad (Conavi).

In all the project has been split into six separate sections. Progress varies on each of these stretches however.

    Work is now complete on a US$33.7 million highway project in Costa Rica. The work was carried out by Eurofinsa and involved upgrading Route 35, including building four bridges and two interchanges, one of which featured two overpasses. The National Route 35 was widened two four lanes between Florencia and La Abundancia and three lanes between Quesada and La Abundancia.     A proposed upgrade to the road connecting Costa Rica’s capital San Jose with nearby Cartago has been put forward. The project would cut journey times to just 30 minutes. The current route is known for its traffic delays, handling around 51,000 vehicles/day. The new route would feature a 3.2km section of flyover and the estimated cost is US$400 million. Should the project get the go ahead, work would commence in early 2021 and should take around two years to complete.
