Building links to Paraguay’s new bridge

New road connections will have to be built for the second Parana River crossing in Paraguay. In all around 37km of new road connections will be required, costing US$180 million. This work will also require the construction of two smaller bridges as well as an overpass section. Financing for the work is being provided via the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF).

    A new bridge project is being planned in Argentina. The new link will connect Parana and Santa Fe. Rivers to be crossed between Parana and Sante Fe include the Parana River, the Colastine River and the Sante Fe River, although it is not yet clear which route will be used. The project is expected to cost from US$600-800 million. This will be included in the Argentinian Government’s 2019 budget. The tender process may commence in October 2018. The work will be carried out under the PPP model.

    Construction work on the fourth bridge spanning Chile’s Biobio Bridge is proceeding on schedule. The project site is located in Chile’s Gran Concepcion area. Construction could commence in 2016, with completion expected in 2018. Environmental studies have yet to be completed however. The work will be carried out as part of a concession package and the bridge is expected to cost some US$214 million to construct, carrying two lanes for vehicle traffic as well as claiming pedestrian and cycling connectivity.   • Major new road and bridge projects underway in India

    A series of major road and bridge projects is now underway in India. One of the most notable is the US$500 million project to build a new bridge spanning the River Ganges, which will be the longest in the country. Financing for the 9.8km bridge has been provided in the shape of a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The new link will be located close to Patna and is spanning both channels of the Ganges at this point and it features a cable-stayed design. The new bridge is required as the original str
