Brazil’s transport infrastructure plans include road development

Brazil has set out plans for a massive programme of transport infrastructure development. This will see extensive works being handled until 2022. In all 16,000km of road works will be carried out, as well as a number of rail improvements and upgrades. External investment is being sought for many of the major projects.

Russia has 511,000km of regional and municipal roads at present, around 43% of the country's total network.     A series of major road projects in Brazil have had their budgets cut. Construction works for 56 motorway projects have seen budgets cut, and in some instances removed altogether. The Brazilian national department for transport infrastructure (Dnit) had a previous budget of US$1.59 billion for road development projects.   • One of Brazil’s main road routes will be upgraded

    Brazil’s Ministry of Transportation is giving the go-ahead for a project that will see the upgrade of a 100km stretch of the BR-381 route. Located in Minas Gerais, the BR-381 will be widened and improved with the addition of extra lanes, making it a dual carriageway. The Ministry of Transportation has opened the first phase of the project to bids and bids have to be submitted before December 17th 2012.

  • Colombia road upgrades being planned

    Major upgrades are being planned to Colombia’s road network. A report produced by Colombia's national road institute (Invias) has revealed that just 13.6% of the country’s 7,019km key road network is in very good condition. Of concern is that 17.7% of Colombia’s key road network is in poor condition, with 0.86% in very poor state. Around 33.6% is in good condition and 34.3% is in average condition.
