Brazilian Government sets out highway financing plans

The Brazilian Government looks set to finance work to upgrade key highways in the country. This move comes although the highways were privatised in the 1990s, according to a report by Business News Americas.     The Vietnamese authorities are planning a series of major road infrastructure investments. During the 2013-2016 time period, two major traffic projects will be carried out in the country and the Vietnamese Government is planning the necessary works. Some US$2.88 billion will be raised for the work required, which includes an upgrade of Highway 14. Another priority project is for upgrading and widening Highway 1A between Can Tho and Ha Tinh north-central province.

    The Chinese Government is providing neighbouring Nepal with expertise and funding for the ring road development around capital Kathmandu. This has been arranged through a bilateral agreement between the Chinese and Nepalese governments. The programme of works is getting under way and will see the widening of 27km of the ring road from its present four lanes to eight lanes in all. The Chinese Government funded the detailed survey design although the contractor has yet to be selected for the project.
