Bomag’s €1mn training boost

BOMAG is set to offer more young adult traineeships after investing €1million in the expansion of the existing training centre at the firm’s Boppard, Germany HQ. BOMAG is set to offer more young adult traineeships after investing €1million in the expansion of the existing training centre at the firm’s Boppard, Germany HQ.

Varied traineeships in production, commercial and technical areas are currently offered by BOMAG to 70 young adults. The company, which employs around 1,400 people at its Boppard site, claims this makes it one of the largest enterprises offering training.

"Our company needs well-trained, young people to safeguard our future," said Thomas Merfeld, BOMAG head of human resources. "We therefore offer our trainees not only the perfect learning conditions, but also individual supervision." Alongside their technical knowledge training, the young adults based at the BOMAG training centre are said by the firm to participate in workshops to improve learning and studying methods, with topics including how to deal with examination nerves. There are also seminars on the important basic rules of planning finances, driving safety courses where the young adults use their own vehicles, and sessions on developing personal skills and attitudes. The present BOMAG training centre is being extended by a total of 550m² divided between two floors. At the same time, the machine tools equipment and technical equipment is being brought up to modern training centre use standard.

From 2013 onwards, BOMAG aims for up to 90 young women and men to enter their respective professions with the company. In addition, around 100 students are expected to gain their first practical experience of working in a metalwork company.
