The Padma Multipurpose bridge project in Bangladesh is to benefit from a major boost to the budget for its development. A further US$105.35 million will be spent on the project. This will take the total cost of the work to $3.07 billion.

The increased budget was approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) of Bangladesh. The project will improve transport between capital Dhaka and the south west of the country.

The Padma Multipurpose Bridge will measure 6.15km in length when complete, with lanes for motor vehicle traffic as well as rail lines for locomotives. The bridge will connect Mawa Point in Munshiganj and Janjira Point in Shariatpur.
