Australia road contract awarded to South Korean firm
The 13km M4-M5 Link in Sydney, Australia is to be constructed by the South Korean contractor, Samsung C&T. The project is worth US$788.5 million. The new link will be constructed as an underpass and is due for completion in mid-2023.

In Adelaide, South Australia, a new bridge has been constructed over the Southern Expressway. The 180m long bridge weighs 3,000tonnes and was slid into place over the weekend of the 25th and 26th November, 2017. The Main South Road bridge project has cost US$494 million (A$620 million). A second span will be slid into position in early 2018. The project method has called for the construction of the bridges adjacent to the installation site, the first time the technique has been utilised in Australia.
Construction work will commence shortly on a new 220km transnational highway in Vietnam. The first phase of the project is expected to cost US$390 million and in all the road will cost in the region of $500 million. Some $134 million for the project is being supplied in loan form from South Korea, with a $25 million loan from Australia and a $75 million loan from the Asian Development Bank.
Key infrastructure projects planned by the government in Laos will help improve the country’s transport connectivity. Heuangsy Construction is to rebuild a 132km road connecting Xanakham with Hinheup in a deal worth some US$168 million signed with the government. The project includes building a new border checkpoint at Vang as well as work to 19 bridges, and links to the Road No13 North and National Highway No11. Western Australia is receive an extra US$397 million (A$499 million) in road funding from the Australian Government. This is in order to make up for a huge fall in the state’s revenues, due at least in part to the drop in mining activity. The Australian Government believes the funding will allow Western Australia to proceed with its plans to construct key infrastructure projects.
