2018 finish for Lithuania’s E 67 Via Baltica Kaunas-Marijampole stretch

Widening a Lithuanian stretch of the Via Baltica from Kaunas to Marijampole to four lanes should be completed this year, the government said. Transport Minister Rokas Masiulis also said that the highway – also known as the pan-European E 67 - from Marijampole to the Polish border would be reconstructed by 2022. He said safety issues – 42 fatalities in the past 10 years - prompted the widening at a cost of nearly €90 million.

Widening a Lithuanian stretch of the Via Baltica from Kaunas to Marijampole to four lanes should be completed this year, the government said.


Transport Minister Rokas Masiulis also said that the highway – also known as the pan-European E 67 - from Marijampole to the Polish border would be reconstructed by 2022. He said safety issues – 42 fatalities in the past 10 years - prompted the widening at a cost of nearly €90 million.

The 970km European route E 67 runs from Prague in the Czech Republic to Helsinki in Finland by way of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. It takes in Wrocław, Warsaw, Kaunas, Panevėžys, Riga, Tallinn and Helsinki.

The last stretch between Tallinn and Helsinki is by ferry.

    Poland’s road authority GDDKiA said that five groups have tendered for construction of a 17.5km section of the S61 Expressway. The section runs from Podborze junction to Sniadowo junction and all bids fall within the investor's budget of around €146 million. The lowest offer reportedly was from a Rubau Polska consortium, at around €112 million, while the highest bid was lodged by Budimex at around €139 million.
