The firm is steadily moving up the size scale with its machines, introducing heavy equipment aimed at the extraction industries, in addition to new and more versatile machines for construction users and road machinery.

The firm is working hard to develop new large excavators and trucks to meet demand from the extraction industries. The large excavators and rigid trucks are now a key part of the product range as 2490 XCMG wants to increase its profile in the extraction sector. The company has also struck an agreement with a local manufacturer of crushing equipment. For the moment these machines will only be sold through the XCMG network in China to complement the extraction equipment range as well as to the demolition segment, but there are future plans for these to be made available in emerging markets such as Latin America, South East Asia and the Middle East also.

Meanwhile in the road equipment segment the firm is now offering a 2m class milling machine, the XM200K. This 34tonne machine is powered by a diesel rated at 447kW and can cut a 2m-wide slot to a depth of 320mm. And designed for versatility, XCMG’s XE75G excavator is a short tailswing unit weighing in at 7.45tonnes, with power from a 45kW diesel. This unit wields a 0.3m3 capacity bucket as standard and offers a bucket digging force of 57kN. Both of these units are intended for export to the firm’s key emergent markets, as with the new extraction equipment line-up.

XCMG is keen to further develop its exports, while also investing in its product development processes. With its leading position in the segments for cranes and concrete pumps, the company believes it can develop sales in both developing and developed markets around the world. The new research and development centres in Europe and North America are working on a series of improved products intended to boost global market share. And the firm is also now utilising the international expertise of its German Schwing concrete pump business to develop sales right across the entire XCMG product range.

XCMG in Africa

XCMG intends to retain its strong position in Africa as a leading Chinese construction machinery brand. The company claims it has achieved encouraging results in the African market. According to customs statistics, XCMG exported over US$200 million worth of products to Africa in 2013. The group posted US$170 million in export value in 2014 and nearly $90 million in the first half of 2015, positioning it as the largest Chinese exporter to the market for consecutive years.

Over the years, XCMG has been focused on exploring global markets extensively. As part of the strategy, it has invested heavily in improving product quality and adaptability, agent development, channel building, and service and spare part support, helping XCMG products sustain the industry's largest share of the African market.

After several years of work, XCMG has established a mature marketing network and service parts system in Africa. Currently, the group has two branches in Ghana and Guinea, and 25 distribution outlets in Guinea, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon and other countries. Its distribution centres in countries and regions such as Cote d'Ivoire and Senegal are expected to start service in late 2015. Through its 20 service and spare parts centres in Africa, XCMG is well-positioned to provide prompt and professional after-sales services and a complete range of spare parts services across Africa.
