China and its neighbouring countries (the new 'target markets') are developing at a very fast pace. The construction machinery market in this area has gradually become the most focused in the world, and in 2007 the sales volume of construction machinery was over 450,000 units.

Over the next 10-15 years, construction of large-scale infrastructure will carry on, including projects of national high-speed railway networks, national highway networks, the second stage of the west-to-east natural gas pipeline and south-to-north water diversion. This will stimulate an increase in demand for construction machinery to some extent.

In addition, the infrastructure in south China and Sichuan Province was severely damaged following the rare snow-ice disaster and the earthquake, and this will need rebuilding.
It is against this backdrop that 2730 BICES (the Beijing International Construction Machinery Exhibition and Seminar), with a steady 20-year growth, has become the largest construction machinery exhibition in the Asia-Pacific Region, and where visitors will be able to see the demands of the new markets, in particular China.

BICES 2009, the tenth such event, will run from 3-6 November, and will cover an area of some 150,000m² at the Jiuhua International Exhibition Center in the Chinese capital.

The biennial event is expected to attract approximately 900 exhibitors and 70,000 visitors from all over the world to the brand new venue.

Under the theme of Safety, Environmental Protection and Science and Technology Innovation, BICES achieved comprehensive recognition and loyalty from nearly all Chinese manufacturers and many other well known worldwide manufacturers in the construction machinery industry, say the organisers, the 2735 China Construction Machinery Association, China Construction Machinery, and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Machinery Sub-Council). International partners are the 1100 Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) and Messe Munchen (MMG), who organise the 0 ConExpo-Con/Agg and 688 Bauma construction equipment events in Las Vegas, USA, and Munich, Germany, respectively. [Bauma is being held from 19-25 April, 2010, and ConExpo from 22-26 March, 2011].

"Their participation will surely further enhance the international and professional level of BICES," say the organisers, while highlighting some of the companies who will be exhibiting at the Beijing event such as 178 Caterpillar, 2300 Komatsu, 1222 Terex, 695 Doosan, 1170 Sany, 236 Hyundai, 2490 XCMG, 1175 Zoomlion, 269 LiuGong and 1171 Shantui.

"They have decided to display at BICES 2009, each with a show space over 1,000m². The outdoor area has been fully booked. Furthermore, several engine manufacturers such as 196 Cummins, 2724 Isuzu, 299 Perkins, 201 Deutz, 7139 Yanmar, 1265 Kubota, 2731 Weichai and Yuchai, will showcase their environmentally friendly engine products with the latest applications of the technologies, in order to respond to the demand for low emission and high efficiency in the new emerging markets."

Meanwhile, visitors will be able to see the newly-developed concrete machinery, pile work machinery, bridge-carrying machinery and other equipment for the construction of high-speed railways in China.

Tunnelling and other machinery with huge market potential for subway construction will also be displayed, while many manufacturers of parts and components will also be present at BICES 2009.

Activities at BICES include the Construction Machinery Exterior Design and Quality Contest; information on the new target markets; technical seminars and topic symposiums on construction machinery, as well as the unveiling of new products and onsite demonstrations.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of China and to display the 60-year progress and achievements of China's construction machinery industry, Forging Success-Construction Machinery Industry Achievements Exhibition in Honour of 60th Anniversary of China, sponsored by Machinery Confederation of China and China Construction Machinery Association and co-organised by the
China Construction Machinery and CCPIT Machinery Sub-Council, will be held alongside BICES.

"As an ancient capital city, Beijing has attracted the majority of the construction enterprises and end-users to make their headquarters there," say the organisers.
