Smooth ride

Bobcat's improved all-steel roller suspension undercarriage is now offered as an option for the T190, T250, T300 and T320 compact tracked loader models. Bobcat's new compact loader suspension system has rollers suspended on high-strength, steel leaf springs to minimise vibration

The track idlers have been raised and the weight of the machine rests on the rollers, improving turning ability. Opting for the suspension system allows a tracked loader to drive over bumpy ground at higher speeds and helps to reduce spillage from the bucket. This is said to be the first roller suspension system to feature an all-steel construction and with steel imbed tracks. The leaf springs, forged steel rollers and single-flanged forged steel idlers are all said to offer long life, cutting running costs in the long term. Virtually maintenance-free, the system has few moving parts and does not require greasing as the rollers are permanently sealed and lubricated with synthetic oil. The drive motor and hydraulic lines of the Bobcat roller suspension system are kept in fixed positions. This limits the possibility of the hoses becoming snagged and reduces wear from vibration and rubbing during operation. The drive motor housing is also hidden, which limits exposure to debris.

Excavators and wheeled loaders benefit from new engine technology - Mike Woof reports. Competition is tough in the market for crawler excavators and wheeled loaders. These production machines account for a significant percentage of the entire construction equipment market worldwide and the segment also has the widest array of competing manufacturers. In the past, European, Japanese and US manufacturers dominated this sector but in the last 20 years South Korean companies have built significant market shares

With the Tier 4 interim/Stage IIIB emissions requirements due next year, further upgrades will be required for all wheeled loaders sold in Europe and North America. In the mean time manufacturers are focussing on improvements that cut cycle times, boost productivity and reduce downtime for example. From Doosan comes the DL420 wheeled loader, which takes over from the previous DL400 and is aimed at use in a range of materials-handling work. The DL420 features a 4m3 bucket and is a 22.3tonne machine that
