Dana’s new soil compactor drive is said to be highly efficient
2254 Dana Incorporated is launching an optimised axle/gearbox combination for small and medium-sized single drum rollers. It is designed with the intention of enabling original-equipment manufacturers to use more compact hydraulic components while maintaining optimal performance.

The solution includes the Spicer 192 rigid planetary axle, a Brevini CTU gearbox and Brevini SH Series variable displacement hydraulic motors. It is said to enable the use of an axle with a high reduction ratio, which increases the power available to the rest of the system.

A range of products is currently available for both single and tandem drum roller applications ranging from 4.5-23tonnes. These include rigid planetary axles, gearboxes, drum drives, fixed and variable displacement hydraulic motors, vibration motors, gear pumps, piston pumps, valves, and associated electronic controls.

Stricter emissions legislation mean that new engine technology and integrated drivetrain systems are being developed. With the Tier 3/Stage IIIA emissions legislation now in place in North America and Europe, the major engine manufacturers already have an array of solutions on the market. The coming Tier 4 interim/Stage IIIB legislation will be tougher still and most firms are well in hand with their plans to use both in-cylinder and exhaust after-treatment technology. While engines themselves are staying b
