The new four cylinder 3.4 litre diesel from 299 Perkins Engines completes the firm's Tier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB product line-up. The 854 Series is said to offer improved power density in a compact package to suit an array of applications. This engine comes in addition to the 1200 Series, which was recently introduced. The 854E offers outputs from 45-86kW and features a common rail fuel injection system, smart waste-gated turbocharger and aftercooler. These are regulated by electronic controls to ensure high performance and low fuel consumption. From 2011, the engine, which develops a peak torque of up to 420Nm, will be available in the 2,200 to 2,500rpm speed range.
This engine meets Perkins' specifications and is being developed as part of a new partnership with2723 Fiat Powertrain Technologies (FPT). Through the FPT partnership the 854 Series benefits from the latest emissions control and after-treatment technologies. Because the engine offers a high power to weight ration in a compact package, it is said to offer ease of installation in off-highway machines.
