Engine starter system saves on batteries

Engine manufacturer MTU, a division of Rolls Royce Power Systems, is trialling its Capacitor Power System (CaPoS) in three mining trucks operating in South Africa. CaPoS is a maintenance-free starter system using super capacitors. The integration of two CaPoS modules on a mining truck equipped with an MTU 4000-series engine can be operated using four batteries instead of the usual eight. MTU claimed the service life of the remaining batteries has been extended five-fold, leading to reduced operating costs.

    April 13, 2016
SKF says its offerings for belt conveyors covers the full asset life cycle, and includes bearings, housings, seals, lubrication systems, maintenance solutions and reliability engineering. Conveyors in mines, quarries and cement plants perform a tough job in harsh conditions: mineral extraction and processing creates large amounts of highly abrasive dust that can enter into machinery; mix with the lubricant inside, and cause accelerated wear and eventual failure of bearings, seals, gears, couplings and other
