299 Perkins has unveiled its first Tier 4 Final emissions compliant engines. The new 400F meets Tier 4 Final/Stage IIIB regulations and is said to be well-proven due to extensive testing. The 400F offers power outputs of up to 45.5kW and is a compact three and four cylinder engine line up. Service costs have been kept down as 97% of components have been carried over from the previous Tier engine. Minimum external changes to the new 400F Series mean that there is little or no need to redesign machines using the diesel, an important feature for OEMs. The aftertreatment system has been designed to be as compact as possible, with flexible mounting arrangements to ease installation. The aftertreatment uses passive regeneration, with systems in place to provide active regeneration capability, burning the soot in the diesel particulate filter to optimise performance. There is no impact on the duty cycle, so machine operation is not compromised although there is an ash service at a minimum of 3,000 hours. The new 400F Series also offers improvements in fuel consumption, transient response, easy maintenance and serviceability, high fuel tolerance and reduced oil consumption.
