167 Benninghoven has developed a new mastic asphalt transport boiler that features an all-electric mixer shaft drive. The GKL Silence unit has an electric drive to power the mixer shaft. Flender SIP planetary gear units are used in conjunction with three-phase asynchronous motors as completely ready-to-install planetary geared motors from 1134 Siemens. This design allows the compact two-stage planetary geared motor to be adjusted to the output and speed range required.

Used in conjunction with a four-pole three-phase asynchronous motor, the maximum starting speed is around 7rpm at the mixing shaft. The optimum speed is 4rpm, which can be adjusted by the machine operator using a frequency control.

Compared with conventional hydraulic drives, the electric system offers a high control of speed range as well as quiet operation. This latter feature means that it can be used in areas where noise restrictions apply, extending the operation time. In addition, units can operate without the need for diesel power simply by connecting to a three-phase supply.

The drive system is said to be highly reliable and can be specified for use in challenging climates. The all-electric drive to the mixer shaft also allows the user to capture data and provide information for use in processing technology and servicing. And tanks with capacities of 5m3, 7.5m3 or 10m3 are available.

The major manufacturers are introducing an array of advanced asphalt compaction machines - Mike Woof writes. New compaction machines are coming to market from an array of manufacturers, aiming to increase output and efficiency for road contractors. One of the most notable developments is with Hamm’s launch of a production hybrid compactor model, while other firms say they are also working on similar systems. However, several manufacturers have introduced new and improved machines with superior performance t
