Asphalt plant specialist 208 E-MAK has developed and patented a hot recycling system that saves energy while ensuring bitumen is not damaged during the material recycling process. Cleverly, its new plant re-uses heat generated by the burner and flows it through the tower to improve heat regeneration to maintain product quality.

Careful development of flights inside the tower increase the time it takes for material to descend, which also provides additional mixing capability while boosting heat absorption. E-Mak is confident that its high efficiency plant design will boost asphalt recycling efficiency - output potential is up to 80tonnes/hour while using 35-40% RAP.

    Turkish firm E-MAK is now supplying its asphalt plants to customers in Europe. The first plant is already commissioned in Bilbao in Spain with a second being delivered shortly to a customer in the UK.

    The machine going to the UK is being supplied to a Derby-based firm that has previously concentrated on the concrete precasting and readymix market but is now widening its operations to include supplying asphalt. The firm is buying one of the E-MAK Express batching plants, which will offer a rated capacity of 160tonnes/hour.

According to the firm, the innovative REVOC system allows plant owners to use higher recycling ratios while complying with emissions limits. The patented technology supplements existing hot and cold recycling systems in asphalt mixing plants, reducing the total carbon emissions (Ctot) with up to 50% recycling material added.
