Strengthening a ten-year partnership with its sole distributor, 209 Emulbitume trained Agrimex to install, start and ensure the after-sales service of the whole range of bitumen emulsion production units and polymer modified bitumen (PMB) units in Russia.

"With 16 plants already in service in Russia, Emulbitume and Agrimex are confident that this step forward will enhance their presence and activity in this fast growing economy " says the company.

Meanwhile, the French manufacturer of emulsion plants has designed a new process for the production of waterproofing emulsions for one of its customers in Algeria.

"All the products, water, bentonite and emulsifier are directly injected into the ATOMIX mill with the bitumen. Until now, the anionic emulsion was mixed, after its production with bentonite in a special device, or the emulsion was manufactured with caustic soda and vinsol resins," say Emulbitume.

"This new process not only avoids handling dangerous products and improves and eases the manufacture, but it also increases the production rate up to 2tonnes/hour, instead of the usual 500kg/hour." During the year the company has moved to new offices, and as well as Russia and Algeria, has successfully installed new plants in France, Congo, Poland, Thailand and Romania.

More plants will be installed in 2009 in the Middle East, South America, as well as Russia and Asia.

Russia is home to all of the world’s climatic zones and to over 6,000 bridges. Rain and wind, sun and heat, snow and ice mean that the Russian weather is extreme, and because its bridges need special protection their structural elements are insulated with bituminous sheeting. Evonik says that temperature stability and long life are key criteria for selecting insulating materials, and this has led to an increase in the use of special sheeting, some of which has been modified with its Vestoplast product. Advances in asphalt plant technology will boost efficiency for producers, while increasing the percentage of recycled materials that can be used in the mix - Mike Woof writes. Asphalt plant technology continues to advance as the rival firms fine-tune their technologies for greater performance. New plants can give higher quality output due to new control technologies, while also allowing for recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) to be used more efficiently, while still ensuring tight mix specifications are met.
