Shell offers bitumen advice in print

Shell is publishing the sixth edition of its handbook on bitumen technology. The Shell Bitumen Handbook is a key guide to asphalt paving technology and is an important reference work for contractors and civil engineers. The latest edition is expected to be used as widely as previous versions by contractors and specialists around the world. 763 Shell is publishing the sixth edition of its handbook on bitumen technology. The Shell Bitumen Handbook is a key guide to asphalt paving technology and is an important reference work for contractors and civil engineers. The latest edition is expected to be used as widely as previous versions by contractors and specialists around the world.

The handbook is authored by Shell’s team of bitumen experts, led by John Read, general manager of Bitumen Technology. He said, “This sixth edition is the biggest update we’ve ever done; with new concepts, practices and case studies, which we are sure our readers will benefit from. Along with new information and innovations, we hope that this reference guide will encourage all practitioners to adapt these technologies and practices in a safe and sustainable manner.”

The Shell Bitumen Handbook, first published in the UK in 1949 as the Mexphalte Handbook, has since, sold over 20,000 copies across 40 countries around the world. “We invested time in keeping the handbook updated to help the industry. It is our way of sharing best practice and to help readers stay informed,” said Read.
