JCB launches 8.5 tonne 86C-1 and 85Z-1 compact midi excavators

JCB has launched a range of midi excavators just as the market for such compact equipment looks set to grow 16% within four years. The first excavators available in the new line-up are the 8.5 tonne 86C-1 conventional tail-swing and the 85Z-1 zero-tail-swing models. The first excavators available in the new line-up are the 8.5 tonne 86C-1 conventional tail-swing and the 85Z-1 zero-tail-swing models.

JCB claimed that a major advantage of the new models is the 2278 Kohler Engines, which requires no DPF. It reduces cost of ownership and offers ease of maintenance.

JCB’s chief innovation and growth officer Tim Burnhope said the compact excavator market is expected to increase to more than 200,000 units by 2017.

The 86C-1 and 85Z-1 have a revised H-design undercarriage, robust steel body panels, a spacious operator environment and powerful Tier 4 Final engines that deliver increased efficiency and lower operating cost.

The 8.5 tonne midi excavators are powered by all-new Stage IIIB engines from Kohler diesel engines, delivering 48kW. They drive 2253 Bosch Rexroth hydraulic valves and Nachi slew motors and track drives and have an additional patented reduced-loss hydraulic system.

The hydraulic system operates with reduced back pressure and eliminates parasitic losses. This puts less demand on the engine and reduces fuel consumption.

All hoses feature O-ring face seal technology and are colour-coded for rapid identification.

The machines are available with a twin locking, factory-fitted quick-hitch system. It incorporates a flashing red LED warning light on the boom to indicate a quick-hitch operation is in progress.
